Yandex catches up with Google by search requests on Android devices

MOSCOW, Aug 31 (PRIME) -- The share of search requests to Google on Android devices in Russia declined to 49% in August from 60% in the same month of 2017, but the share of local Yandex rose to 49% from 40%, according to the data seen by PRIME on the Russian Search Marketing portal on Friday.

Yandex’s success results from appearance of a choice of a search engine on Android-run devices. “Pop-up windows offering a search system by default were added to browser Google Chrome in August 2017,” the portal said.

Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service found Google guilty of violating the law on competition in September 2015 upon Yandex’s complaint. Google was accused of dominance on the market of preinstalled application stores on Android devices.
